Full moon and flood tides

Full moon is tonight.  The moon brings big flood tides to the marsh, inconvenient for all coastal residents – birds and people alike.  Many of our willet nests have failed due to the high tides of recent days.  The closer to hatching an egg gets, the more it floats.    Since most of our nests were on the verge of hatching, we had lots of eggs float away with the tide.  The good news is that the willets have time to renest, so they will get another chance at a successful season.
